A Mindful Approach to Record Retrieval

BEST PRACTICE
Gather all plaintiff alias information before requesting records. Avoid delayed or prolonged record retrieval efforts, the potential for missing records, and unplanned cost increase.
SUMMARY

MRC’s persistence and attention to detail yielded valuable information affecting the outcome of a case.

THE CHALLENGE

MRC issued a request to a facility based on information provided by the client. However, the facility claimed no records existed.

MRC’S SOLUTION

MRC’s retrieval specialists completed additional research on the plaintiff named on the authorization forms and found that the plaintiff would use multiple aliases when visiting facilities.

With that in mind, MRC reissued record orders using the newly identified plaintiff alias and successfully retrieved provider records.

MRC’s discovery of the plaintiff’s aliases undermined the case claims and built a stronger argument for the defense. The case was ultimately dismissed.
